ChatGPT loses users as Gemini, Claude rise and Xiaomi launches free AI platform
According to Sensor Tower's State of AI Report 2026, OpenAI's ChatGPT fell below a 50% market share by May 2026, slipping to 46.4% while Google’s Gemini grew to 27.7% and Anthropic’s Claude reached 10.3%. The decline was accelerated after OpenAI’s February partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, prompting a wave of uninstalls. Despite the drop, ChatGPT still topped 1.1 billion monthly active users, a record pace for any app. The report projects AI‑driven apps to achieve 2.3 billion downloads in the first half of 2026, with total usage hours set to double.
In parallel, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi announced the official launch of its MiMo Claw platform, powered by the MiMo‑V2.5‑Pro model. The cloud‑based service can handle up to one million tokens per session and offers a free tier of up to four daily hours, eliminating the need for costly subscriptions. MiMo Claw integrates with Kingsoft Office, supports most document formats, and will be available internationally in future phases. Subscription plans start at 14.9 yuan for the first month, with monthly and annual options for higher‑capacity use.
