ChatGPT market share dips below 50% as Gemini and Claude gain users

ChatGPT's dominance in the AI chatbot market has weakened, with its share falling to 46.4% in May, the first time it dropped below the 50% threshold. Competitors Gemini and Claude captured 27.7% and 10.3% of the market respectively. The total number of monthly active users continues to rise, with ChatGPT surpassing one billion users, Gemini reaching 662 million, and Claude 245 million.

Spending on AI chatbot services more than doubled in the first half of the year, climbing to $4.2 billion from $1.83 billion a year earlier. Claude leads in subscription conversion, with 13% of its users paying for a premium plan, while ChatGPT relies increasingly on advertising, exposing about 17% of its daily active users to ads and linking to retailers such as Target, Walmart and Costco. Premium subscriptions for leading AI tools cost roughly $20–30 per month (around 80–120 zł), with similar pricing across ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Gemini Pro and Perplexity Pro.
