Millions of users mistype the name each day, generating significant search traffic that third‑party developers capture by branding their tools as “chat gpot” alternatives. These projects have no affiliation with OpenAI and often rely on the typo to attract clicks, monetising through ads, subscriptions or data collection. While many are harmless novelties, others may expose users to unwanted marketing or invasive data practices. Experts advise checking that any ChatGPT‑related site explicitly states its lack of connection to OpenAI and accessing the official service only through OpenAI’s website.
