Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, driving under the influence, and reckless driving following a fatal collision in Chatsworth, Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege that Rios was driving her 2004 Ford Expedition at high speeds and under the influence of drugs when she drove the wrong way on De Soto Avenue, ran a red light, and struck a Metro bus.

The initial collision killed two bus passengers, identified as Gage Weida, 31, and Daniel Castillo, 46. The incident was followed by a secondary tragedy when an NBC news helicopter, which was filming the scene, crashed in a nearby parking lot. The helicopter crash resulted in the deaths of reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and a bystander, Edy Gutierrez Mejia.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the event as a “preventable tragedy,” noting that narcotics were found in Rios's vehicle. Rios is being held on approximately $4 million bail and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. Investigations into the helicopter crash are being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
