Chatsworth community holds vigil following fatal news helicopter crash
A community vigil was held at St. John Eudes Church to honor the victims of a fatal NewsChopper4 helicopter crash in Chatsworth. The accident, which occurred Tuesday evening, killed three people and injured two others.
Those killed in the helicopter were reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw, both employees of Angel City Air, which operated the Airbus AS350 B2 for NBC4 and Telemundo 52. A third victim, 29-year-old Edy Gutierrez Mejia, died on the ground. The vigil also paid tribute to two individuals killed in a separate SUV and Metro bus collision that the news crew had been covering at the time of their crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting a months-long investigation. Lead investigator Fabian Salazar stated that cockpit video is a critical piece of evidence, as it reportedly captures engine speed changes and warning signals indicative of engine failure just before the aircraft fell.
