Chattogram Zoo offers free entry to students for plastic waste
The Chattogram District Administration has launched an experimental initiative allowing students to enter the Chattogram Zoo for free by depositing at least 100 grams of plastic waste. To qualify, students must present a valid institutional identity card.
Announced by District Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia, the program aims to raise environmental awareness among youth and combat the threats posed by plastic pollution, such as soil degradation and mosquito breeding sites. The collected plastic is intended for recycling rather than disposal in landfills, with authorities currently discussing logistics with the Chattogram City Corporation to ensure the waste is repurposed effectively.
