Chavdar Boyadzhiev sentenced to life imprisonment without parole
The Sofia City Court has sentenced Chavdar Boyadzhiev to life imprisonment without the right to parole. The ruling follows a retrial after a previous sentence was annulled by the Sofia Appellate Court.
Boyadzhiev was found guilty of multiple crimes, including the murders of M. S. in April 2022, and Yana Velinova and Ivo Kolev in August 2023 near the village of Lozen. The court determined that the killing of Kolev was accompanied by an attempt at extortion after Kolev refused to provide online banking credentials.
In addition to the murders, Boyadzhiev was convicted of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, receiving a three-year sentence for that offense. The court established a single most severe punishment of life imprisonment without the possibility of substitution. The verdict is subject to appeal.
