Chavimochic irrigation projects advance in La Libertad

The Chavimochic Special Project (PECH) in La Libertad is advancing through significant infrastructure developments. A new investment project for the Huatape–Santo Domingo–Conache irrigation system in the Moche district has been declared viable. With an investment of over S/ 9 million, the project involves lining more than 10 kilometers of irrigation canals and constructing various concrete structures, including aqueducts and water intakes, to benefit 48 families and 146 hectares of crops.

Separately, updated engineering studies for the Chavimochic Mother Canal estimate the total required investment at S/ 2,200 million. The project is currently in the structuring phase, involving technical, financial, legal, and environmental studies, which will precede an international bidding process. To support this, officials are calling for the Ministry of Economy and Finance to allocate resources to complete the Rafael Quevedo Flores dam and the Virú Siphon. The expansion of the Chavimochic project is considered vital for the national economy, as it currently supports over $1,770 million in agro-exports and 113,000 direct jobs.
