Chaz Mostert wins rain-soaked Gold Coast Supercars race

Chaz Mostert secured a dominant victory in the opening race of the Supercars Finals at the Gold Coast 500, mastering treacherous, rain-soaked conditions at the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit. Driving for Walkinshaw TWG in the team’s spare Toyota chassis, Mostert overtook pole-sitter Broc Feeney early in the race and maintained a commanding lead, finishing more than 23 seconds ahead of the field.

The win is significant as it guarantees Mostert a spot in the next round of the finals at Sandown. The race was marked by strategic shifts and penalties; Matt Payne, who was running in second place late in the contest, was relegated to third following a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits. This allowed David Reynolds to claim second place after an impressive recovery from a 14th-place start.

While Mostert controlled the front, other competitors faced difficulties. Broc Feeney struggled with tyre temperature issues, and Anton De Pasquale secured fourth place. The victory marks Mostert’s third consecutive win at the Gold Coast circuit.
