Check Point reports 17% rise in global cyberattacks, ransomware group The Gentlemen tops leaderboard

Check Point’s June 2026 Global Threat Intelligence report shows organizations worldwide faced an average of 2,270 cyber attacks per week, a 10% increase from the previous month and 17% higher than June 2025. Ransomware activity jumped 33% to 646 incidents, with the group known as The Gentlemen overtaking Qilin as the most active ransomware operator.

Education, government and telecommunications remained the most targeted sectors, while Latin America recorded the sharpest regional rise at 27%. In Africa, Angola recorded the highest attack volume, followed by Nigeria, Kenya (2,646 weekly attacks) and South Africa.

GenAI‑related data‑leak risk persisted, with one in every 26 enterprise prompts flagged as high‑risk (3.9% exposure). Healthcare and telecommunications showed the highest exposure rates, underscoring ongoing challenges as organizations adopt multiple AI tools.
