Cheese festivals promoted in Uruguay and Argentina

The third edition of the Uruguay Cheese Festival has been announced, scheduled for October 18 at the Plaza de los Fundadores in Nueva Helvecia. Organized by the Economic Development Agency of Eastern Colonia (ADE) and the Municipality of Nueva Helvecia, the event aims to highlight the region's cheesemaking traditions and its link to local tourism and production. During the presentation, Uruguay's Minister of Tourism, Pablo Menoni, emphasized the potential for establishing a designation of origin for Colonia cheese to protect its quality and status.

In Argentina, the seventh edition of the Cheese Festival in Los Toldos, General Viamonte, is also underway. Mayor Franco Flexas noted that the festival has grown into a significant economic driver for the district, providing a platform for local producers to gain recognition. The event includes activities in the main city and tours of various cheese-producing establishments, with the 'Cheese Route' now being managed directly by the local cheesemakers.
