Cheetahs reject loan request for Faf de Klerk

Cheetahs coach Frans Steyn has confirmed that Springbok scrumhalf Faf de Klerk will remain with the Free State side and will not be loaned to the Stormers for the United Rugby Championship.

The decision follows interest from Stormers director of rugby John Dobson, who had identified De Klerk as a potential short-term option to bolster squad depth following player retirements and injuries. Steyn noted that negotiations were not advanced and emphasized De Klerk’s importance to the Cheetahs and their sponsors, specifically mentioning that Toyota has a major say in such matters.

De Klerk has been a standout performer in the Currie Cup, earning Player of the Match honors in three of his five recent appearances.
