Chef Abbys discusses forging an independent career

Ghanaian chef and content creator Chef Abbys, born Abena Amoakoa Sintim-Aboagye, has shared that she deliberately chose to build an independent career despite growing up in a successful and comfortable family.

Speaking on the B. You Podcast with Berla Mundi, she clarified that while she did not face economic hardship or lack of resources, she did not want to rely on her family’s existing achievements. She noted that her parents expressed pride in her desire to discover her own direction rather than settling for security.

Her career has expanded from sharing cooking content at home to gaining international recognition, including meeting TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and showcasing Ghanaian cuisine at festivals. She used her platform to encourage young women to pursue their own ambitions rather than remaining in unfulfilling situations simply because they are secure.
