Chef Carlos Casillas serves 18,000 meals to Ávila fire victims

Spanish chef Carlos Casillas, the youngest Michelin‑starred cook in the country, closed his Ávila restaurant Barro to turn its kitchen into a relief hub after a forest fire swept the Sierra de Gredos. Working with the NGO World Central Kitchen, founded by chef José Andrés, the team began the operation on Thursday, delivering the first 700 hot meals to evacuees, firefighters and volunteers.

The effort has since expanded to three 24‑hour shifts, producing roughly 18,000 meals to date for those battling the blaze and families displaced by the disaster. Barro remains closed for regular service while all resources are devoted to the emergency food operation.
