Chef Jörg Müller, pioneer of German haute cuisine, dies at 79
Renowned German chef Jörg Müller has passed away at the age of 79 following a long and serious illness. A pioneer of German haute cuisine, Müller was known for his mastery of classical French cooking and earned two Michelin stars throughout his career.
After training in Germany and gaining experience in England, Switzerland, and Greece, Müller rose to prominence at the Schweizer Stuben in Wertheim. He later moved to the North Sea island of Sylt, where he achieved further success at Restaurant Nösse and eventually established his own acclaimed hotel and restaurant in Westerland.
In 2014, Müller made a notable decision to withdraw from formal restaurant rating systems, stating, “Meine Gäste sind meine Sterne” (My guests are my stars). He chose to focus on providing high-quality, soulful gastronomy without the pressure of rankings or rigid luxury rituals. His culinary legacy was recently documented by the German Culinary Archive through his signature quail crepinette with Périgord truffle risotto.
