China advances scientific innovation and green energy transition

China is implementing new strategies to bolster its technological and environmental sectors. The People's Bank of China (PBOC), in collaboration with ten other departments, has released guidelines to strengthen financial support for international science and technology hubs in Beijing, Shanghai, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive financial service system for technological innovation by 2030, including improved foreign currency policies for qualified foreign limited partners (QFLP) and simplified cross-border fund management for tech multinationals.

Simultaneously, China is accelerating its green transition. According to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP decreased by 17.7% in 2025 compared to 2020 levels. Non-fossil energy accounted for 21.7% of total energy consumption. Notably, solar energy capacity has surpassed coal for the first time, becoming the country's primary single source of electricity. The nation also holds the world's largest installed capacity for nuclear power and has seen renewable energy capacity reach 2.46 billion kilowatts by the first half of 2026.
