Cheikh Kane and Paula Lamas share stories of migration and professional reinvention

The book ‘Una casa para mi madre’, co-authored by Cheikh Kane and journalist María Albarral, is scheduled for release on September 17, 2026, via Plaza & Janés. The narrative follows Kane’s journey from a difficult childhood in Senegal—marked by hunger and life in a Quranic school—to his migration to Spain via a cayuco. After living without documentation and working precarious jobs, Kane was discovered by a photographer in Marbella, leading to an international modeling career featured in Vogue Italia. The book explores themes of irregular migration, family responsibility, and his lifelong goal of building a home for his mother.

In a separate profile, Paula Lamas discusses her professional transition from working in international hospitality to entrepreneurship in Asturias. After training as a flight attendant and working for Meliá in locations such as Milan and Lanzarote—where she managed high-protocol events for the Royal House—Lamas returned to her roots in Pola de Lena. She is now a partner in the restaurant Roble by Jairo, focusing on her local community after a career spanning various international destinations.
