Chelan Hills Fire destroys Hobbit Inn and forces evacuations in eastern Washington

The Chelan Hills Fire in eastern Washington has burned nearly 10,000 acres, is 20% contained and has destroyed more than 100 homes and outbuildings, including the whimsical Hobbit Inn, a popular fantasy‑themed vacation rental. One person has died and Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders were issued for parts of Douglas County.

The inn’s owner, Kristie Wolfe, confirmed the property is a total loss and launched a GoFundMe campaign to rebuild, noting the unique structure was under‑insured. Local officials and fire experts urged residents to create defensible space and keep emergency go‑bags ready, highlighting the ongoing wildfire risk in the region.
