Chelsea intensifies pursuit of Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria
Chelsea have entered club‑to‑club negotiations with Rayo Vallecano over 28‑year‑old left‑back Pep Chavarria. After an initial offer of about €9 million was rejected, the English club is reported to be prepared to meet the Spanish side’s valuation of around £17 million. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chavarria has agreed personal terms with the Blues, leaving only a fee agreement to finalize the deal.
The move comes as Chelsea look to replace Marc Cucurella, who departed for Real Madrid, and to give manager Xabi Alonso a seasoned left‑footed defender capable of defending transitions and contributing to possession. Chavarria, who made 33 La Liga appearances last season with one goal and two assists, is under contract with Rayo until 2030 and reportedly carries a €50 million release clause. Chelsea have already reinforced the right side by signing Marco Palestra, but still need a senior left‑back to balance a squad loaded with younger players.
