Chelsea aggressively targets new signings as Xabi Alonso reshapes squad

Chelsea is actively pursuing two players as part of manager Xabi Alonso's overhaul of the squad. The club has opened talks with Spanish left‑back Pep Chavarria, 28, from Rayo Vallecano, who has a contract until 2030 that includes a release clause, to provide depth on the left flank after the departure of Marc Cucurella.

In midfield, Chelsea has made a €8‑9 million offer for Swiss captain Granit Xhaka of Sunderland. The offer was rejected, with Sunderland describing it as “offensive” and stating the player is not for sale. Xhaka, who is under contract until 2028, has expressed a desire to reunite with Alonso, who coached him at Bayer Leverkusen. Both potential deals reflect Chelsea's intent to add experience and positional cover ahead of the new season.
