Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong's first-team future in doubt

Twenty‑year‑old centre‑back Josh Acheampong remains on a long contract with Chelsea until 2029 but has seen limited Premier League action, making only 17 appearances last season, most as a substitute. The club has labelled him an “untouchable” prospect, yet has not offered assurances of regular playing time, prompting frustration for the England U21 international.

Clubs including Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Bournemouth have been reported to be monitoring Acheampong, with Palace reportedly considering a loan move. Chelsea have so far rebuffed overtures, while manager Xabi Alonso faces pressure to deliver immediate results, leaving Acheampong's pathway to first‑team football uncertain amid competition from established defenders such as Cole Palmer, Reece James and Moises Caicedo.
