Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina trains with Strasbourg

Chelsea's 22-year-old United States goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina is training with Ligue 1 side Strasbourg as the clubs explore a possible loan move. The 2022 signing, who is under contract with Chelsea until 2028, has not yet secured a transfer and remains eligible to return to the Premier League club.

Strasbourg are seeking a first‑team goalkeeper after loanee Mike Penders returned to Chelsea, creating a vacancy. New manager Hugo Oliveira has allowed Slonina to train with the French club while assessing his suitability. Slonina previously played for Eupen and Barnsley on loan, making limited senior appearances. Chelsea’s current goalkeeping roster includes Robert Sánchez, Filip Jørgensen, Teddy Sharman‑Lowe and Penders.

Chelsea would need to receive a fee of roughly £3.3 million to offset the cost of Slonina’s £10 million signing. Strasbourg have also added 20‑year‑old Polish keeper Milosz Piekutowski, suggesting competition for the role. The move remains unconfirmed and will depend on Strasbourg’s evaluation of Slonina’s readiness for regular first‑team football.
