Chelsea defeat Brighton 4-3 in Premier League thriller
Chelsea secured a 4-3 victory against Brighton at Stamford Bridge during the second week of the Premier League season. Under manager Xabi Alonso, Chelsea raced to a 3-0 lead with goals from Romeo Lavia, Pedro Neto, and Joao Pedro.
Brighton mounted a comeback, with Malick Yalcouye scoring before halftime and a Joao Pedro own goal narrowing the gap to 3-2. Cole Palmer eventually restored Chelsea's two-goal cushion with a strike in the 74th minute, though Pascal Gross scored a late goal for Brighton to finalize the score.
The match also marked the debut of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for Chelsea. Despite the win, the high-scoring affair highlighted defensive vulnerabilities for both sides.
