Chelsea legends recall emotional reaction to Jose Mourinho's 2007 exit

In a new three-part Netflix documentary titled ‘MOURINHO’, former Chelsea players Frank Lampard and John Terry reflect on the emotional impact of Jose Mourinho’s departure from the club in September 2007.

Lampard recalled the moment Mourinho entered the dressing room to announce his sacking, noting that the players were in tears, which he described as unusual for a manager's exit. He expressed deep gratitude for how much Mourinho had helped his career.

John Terry expressed intense loyalty to the manager, stating he would ‘leave that pitch in a coffin for him’. Terry also expressed lingering personal guilt regarding the sacking, questioning if his role in a Champions League draw against Rosenborg contributed to the decision to dismiss Mourinho.

The documentary also explores the internal tensions at Chelsea, including Mourinho’s description of a strained relationship with then-owner Roman Abramovich and the increasing influence of outside parties within the club’s leadership structure.
