Chelsea owners Boehly and Walter in talks to sell stakes to Clearlake Capital

Todd Boehly and Mark Walter are reportedly in discussions to sell their stakes in Chelsea FC to the club’s majority owner, Clearlake Capital. The potential deal would value the London-based club at approximately €6 billion (£5 billion).

If the sale proceeds, Clearlake Capital would consolidate its control over the club, which it has partially owned since the 2022 takeover. The transaction could also see Boehly step down from his role as president at the end of the season.

Analysts suggest the move may resolve long-standing tensions within the ownership group. Additionally, the sale could provide liquidity for Mark Walter following his recent sale of the Los Angeles Lakers and amidst ongoing investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice into his business dealings.
