Chelsea signs defender Alfie Osborne from Hearts

Chelsea has completed the signing of 18-year-old defender Alfie Osborne from the Scottish club Hearts. The deal is reported to be worth £400,000, with the centre-back signing a four-year contract that runs until the summer of 2030.

Osborne, who captains Scotland’s U19 team, recently transitioned from midfield to defense. During the 2025/26 season in the Lowland Football League, he earned both Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards. He also recently led Hearts' Under-18s to a Scottish Cup victory.

Osborne reportedly held discussions with Barcelona before choosing to join Chelsea, where he is expected to begin in the academy. His arrival follows other recent youth acquisitions, including Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra. Meanwhile, manager Xabi Alonso is expected to oversee further squad reductions before the September 1 transfer deadline.
