Chelsea signs Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa

Chelsea has completed the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa. The move marks the eighth transfer agreement between the two Premier League clubs in the last four years, following recent deals involving players like Nicolas Jackson and Morgan Rogers.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery described the relationship between the two clubs as purely transactional, stating, “It is a deal for money and a deal for the players,” rather than a friendly partnership. Since BlueCo took control of Chelsea in 2022, the clubs have engaged in significant financial exchanges, with Chelsea paying Villa £163.5 million for various players.

While Martínez expressed excitement about joining a club that wins titles, the signing has drawn mixed reactions from pundits. Former Manchester United player Roy Keane questioned the decision, suggesting the goalkeeper has declined in performance, whereas Ian Wright argued that Martínez has the ability to take Chelsea to the next level.
