Chelsea's Xabi Alonso to pair Morgan Rogers with Cole Palmer
Morgan Rogers completed a £117 million transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea, citing his long‑standing friendship with England forward Cole Palmer as a key factor. Rogers said the two have “been speaking about this for a while” and look forward to playing together again. New manager Xabi Alonso has identified Palmer as a “special player” and intends to build his attacking system around both creators. Alonso’s tactical plan envisions Rogers acting as the progressor who carries the ball forward, while Palmer occupies the pockets between midfield and defence to finish attacks. The club’s hierarchy has reinforced Palmer’s central role, with Alonso personally urging the pair to combine in the new‑look side. Both players are expected to drive Chelsea’s offensive play under Alonso’s four‑year contract, which began on 1 July 2026.
