Chelsea have reached an agreement with Rayo Vallecano to sign left‑back Pep Chavarría for a guaranteed €25 million plus performance‑related add‑ons, roughly half of his €50 million release clause. The fee makes the deal the biggest sale in Rayo’s history. The transfer is expected to be formalised within hours and the 28‑year‑old is already in London.

Chavarría’s move addresses Chelsea’s need for a replacement after Marc Cucurella departed for Real Madrid. Manager Xabi Alonso identified the Spanish defender as a suitable fit for his system, and the player will compete for the left‑back spot with Dutch international Jorrel Hato. Rayo Vallecano, left with a vacancy, have begun scouting replacements, with interest reported in Álex Moreno and Javi López.

In his last season with Rayo, Chavarría made 44 appearances, scored once and provided three assists, performances that attracted interest from several European clubs before he chose the Premier League.
