Chelsea eyes major signings as Xabi Alonso takes charge

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is shaping the club’s summer transfer strategy. He has already secured youth prospect Mahdi Nicoll‑Jazuli on a scholarship deal, ensuring the 16‑year‑old stays despite interest from several European clubs.

Alonso’s first window also includes interest in several senior players. Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup, valued around €45 million, has been linked with a move, though the winger wants Champions League football – a competition Chelsea missed last season. Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka is another target; the club is expected to increase its offer after Sunderland’s refusal to sell for £8 million.

Alonso has reportedly instructed the hierarchy to pursue Manchester United’s Aurelien Tchouameni if midfielder Enzo Fernandez departs, linking the two deals. Additional goalkeeper speculation involves Belgian Mike Penders and current starter Robert Sánchez.

Overall, Alonso is using his transfer power to bring in what he describes as "world‑class" talent while navigating the club’s financial constraints and the lack of Champions League qualification.
