Chełm to receive 7.5 km southern bypass
The city of Chełm has secured funding for the construction of a 7.5 km southern bypass, a project originally conceived nearly 50 years ago. An agreement for financing was signed on October 30, 2026, providing 96.1 million PLN from the Government Road Development Fund.
The total investment is estimated to cost approximately 137 to 140 million PLN, with the government subsidy covering 70 percent of the expenses. The city is also applying for a 0 percent interest loan through the “Tarcza Wschód” program, which could result in a 40 percent loan forgiveness.
Construction is scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2030. The project includes three engineering structures, such as a viaduct over a railway line, as well as intersections and infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. Officials stated the bypass is intended to improve regional communication, enhance traffic safety, and stimulate economic development.
