Chemainus intersection safety review urged after 37 crashes

A resident of Chemainus is calling for urgent safety improvements at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and River Road following a high frequency of accidents.

According to ICBC collision data, there have been 37 reported crashes at this specific intersection over the past four years. Local resident Rob Bauer, who lives in the nearby Cedar Ridge Village, has witnessed several serious incidents, including a collision that required a medical helicopter airlift.

Bauer noted that the lack of traffic controls at the crossing forces some drivers to take risks, while others, like himself, choose to drive an additional 1.5 kilometres to the signalized intersection at Henry Road to avoid the danger.
