Chemical factory explosion in Mahad, Raigad injures four

A powerful explosion occurred at Synergia Chem Industries in the Mahad MIDC area of Raigad district, Maharashtra. The blast, which reportedly originated from a reactor or boiler during the production of para-nitro toluene ortho sulfonic acid, was strong enough to be felt within a 4 to 5 kilometer radius.

The explosion triggered a significant fire and sent large plumes of smoke into the air. Emergency responders, including the police, fire brigade, and NDRF, arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations and bring the fire under control. Authorities managed to contain the situation after approximately two hours of effort.

At least four people were reported seriously injured in the incident. The victims were transported to the Mahad Rural Health Hospital for medical treatment. While preliminary assessments suggest a technical failure during a reaction between oleum and sulfur, an official investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
