Chemical spill in Dasná after improperly secured cargo overturned
Approximately 100 liters of ferrous sulfate solution spilled onto a road in Dasná, near České Budějovice, after a drum overturned from an Iveco delivery vehicle. The incident occurred around noon on Monday on the main road between České Budějovice and Písek.
Firefighters responded to the scene, using sorbents to cover the liquid and installing sorption booms to prevent the chemical from entering the sewage system. Ferrous sulfate is noted for being a hazardous substance that can cause severe eye damage, skin irritation, and respiratory irritation if inhaled.
Police spokesperson Jiří Matzner stated that the cargo was likely improperly secured. The violation of hazardous material transport regulations will be referred to environmental officials, with potential fines reaching several hundred thousand crowns.
