Chemmy Alcott suffers collapsed lung after diving accident

Former British Olympic alpine skier Chemmy Alcott suffered a collapsed lung following a diving accident at Lac d'Annecy in the French Alps. The 44-year-old, who is now a BBC presenter, was performing a forward somersault from a five-meter diving platform during a family holiday.

Alcott miscalculated her rotation, causing her to strike the water surface with significant force. She reported that while many people experience brief breathlessness after a poorly timed jump, her injury required a thoracic drainage to remove air and fluid from her chest.

Following the initial impact, Alcott climbed back onto the platform to attempt a second jump out of embarrassment before realizing she was unable to breathe properly. She spent several nights in the hospital recovering from the injuries.
