Chemours PFAS settlement reached for 2,600 North Carolina residents

More than 2,600 property owners living near Chemours' Fayetteville Works plant in North Carolina have agreed to settle a mass‑tort lawsuit out of court. The case, filed in 2018, alleged that DuPont and Chemours released PFAS—persistent "forever chemicals"—into surface water and groundwater dating back to the 1980s. Residents said the contamination forced them to rely on bottled water, disrupted gardening and livestock, lowered property values, and limited everyday household activities.

A bellwether trial scheduled for July 13 was halted as the parties negotiated the settlement, the terms of which were not disclosed. The settlement is seen as part of a broader U.S. focus on PFAS pollution, which has raised nationwide concerns about health and environmental impacts of these chemicals.
