Chemung Financial converts subsidiary to national bank

Chemung Financial Corporation has completed the conversion of its subsidiary, Chemung Canal Trust Company, into a national bank. Following approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the entity will now operate as ‘Chemung Canal Trust Company, National Association’.

As part of a broader rebranding strategy, the company plans to consolidate its 30 branches—including Chemung Canal Trust Company, Capital Bank, and Canal Bank—under the new name ‘Canal Bank & Trust, N.A.’. This transition is expected to be announced by October 2026 and implemented throughout 2027, though leadership, ownership, and business models will remain unchanged.

Financially, Chemung Financial reported second-quarter earnings that exceeded market expectations, with a net profit of $8.81 million and diluted earnings per share of $1.82. In response to these results and the structural changes, DA Davidson has issued a ‘Buy’ rating for the stock with a price target of $95.00, which sits above the average analyst consensus of $87.67.
