Chen Nien-chin advances to Asian Games boxing semifinals

Taiwanese boxer Chen Nien-chin secured a spot in the semifinals of the women's 65kg division at the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games. In a high-stakes quarterfinal match, Chen defeated Thailand's Janjaem Suwannapheng, a fellow Paris Olympics bronze medalist, with a unanimous 5-0 decision.

Chen controlled the rhythm of the fight through precise counter-punching and strategic movement. By advancing to the final four, she has guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal, as the tournament does not hold separate bronze medal matches. This achievement marks her second consecutive Asian Games medal, following her bronze in Hangzhou.

Following the victory, Chen expressed a desire to lead by example for younger athletes, stating she aims to show them how to enjoy the major stage with composure. She noted that while she felt some initial excitement, she approached the match with a calm mindset, focusing on performing her duties and remaining safe throughout the competition.
