Chen Shui-bian holds large signing event amid judicial criticism

Former President Chen Shui-bian held a large-scale signing event at the Kaohsiung Foundation in Taipei on September 20. The event drew over 800 supporters, with many arriving early in the morning to present long-held memorabilia for his signature. Due to the high turnout, the event was extended, though approximately 100 people were unable to participate.

Chen Shui-bian expressed gratitude to his followers and apologized to those who missed the signing. He also announced that a revised edition of his book, ‘The Cross of Taiwan’, is being prepared for a book launch next month.

Legislator Weng Hsiao-ling criticized the event on social media, questioning the judicial system's handling of Chen's status. Weng highlighted that Chen has been on medical parole for nearly 12 years despite a 20-year sentence for corruption, and argued that his active public appearances contradict his medical parole status. She further alleged that judicial delays in ongoing litigation could allow statutes of limitations to expire.
