Cheng Chao-fang campaign draws criticism amid land and political allegations
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim’s attendance at a campaign event for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Hsinchu County Magistrate candidate Cheng Chao-fang has drawn sharp criticism from political opponents.
Kuomintang (KMT) candidate Hsu Hsin-ying and local representative candidate Huang Yu-wen have both urged the Vice President to avoid being used to validate what they describe as “family politics” and “black gold” controversies. Opponents allege that Cheng’s campaign materials intentionally omit DPP branding and colors to mask his party affiliation.
Specific allegations leveled against Cheng and his family include a controversial land transaction in Zhubei involving significant profit margins, a proposed conversion of 180,000 ping of land into a funeral park and waste disposal site, and claims of intimidation against whistleblowers and media members. Cheng’s campaign has denied these allegations, stating his position aligns with current county leadership regarding land use and denying any improper meetings.
