Cheng Chao-fang family faces land conversion allegations in Shenqu Village
The Cheng family, associated with Hsinchu County mayoral candidate Cheng Chao-fang, is facing allegations regarding a potential land conversion in Shenqu Village, Zhudong. Reports suggest an attempt to rezone approximately 180,000 pings of forest and recreational land for use as a funeral park and construction soil site, a move that could yield profits exceeding 25 billion TWD.
Media reports claim that in early 2023, representatives of the Cheng family and Ye Kuo-yi met with then-Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke to discuss the proposal. However, Yang reportedly rejected the idea, and the Hsinchu County Government has stated there are no official records of such a land-use change application.
In response, Cheng Chao-fang’s campaign has denied any involvement in a secret meeting or land-use scheme, characterizing the allegations as political smear tactics. Meanwhile, commentator Wu Tzu-chia has leveled further accusations, claiming that Cheng Chao-han, the candidate's brother, used Triad-linked individuals to intimidate whistleblowers involved in the matter.
