Chengalpattu police detain suspect in sexual assault of disabled girl

A 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy was sexually assaulted in her home near Madurantakam in the Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred while the girl was alone because her parents were attending a relative's event.

Following a complaint from the parents, the Melmaruvathur All Women Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Police have identified and detained a suspect for questioning. Authorities have dismissed reports suggesting multiple perpetrators, stating that current investigations point to a single suspect.

The survivor was taken to a government hospital for medical examination and will receive counseling. Officials from the Chengalpattu district administration visited the family and provided compensation from the Tamil Nadu Victim Compensation Fund. DMK MP Kanimozhi condemned the incident, calling for government action to ensure the safety of women and children.
