Chengtun Congo Resources threatens legal action over Metalkol allegations
Chengtun Congo Resources (CCR), a subsidiary of the Chinese Chengtun Mining Group, has announced intentions to pursue legal action against Africa Intelligence following allegations regarding its operations at the Metalkol site in Lualaba, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
During a press conference on October 22, legal counsel Me Guy Mafuta Kabongo rejected claims involving illegal mineral trading, unauthorized security practices, and the alleged financing of the Kabila clan. The company denied that its Africa CEO, Wu Yicong, was present in the DRC during a recent National Security Council mission and clarified that its security personnel are unarmed and do not utilize military forces.
Addressing financial allegations, CCR stated that Kalongwe Mining only began production in 2023, making it impossible for dividends to have been paid to GICC during the periods cited in the reports. The company further denied any commercial or financial ties to the Hosanna cooperative, Luilu Ressources, or the Governor of Lualaba, Fifi Masuka Saini. CCR is demanding a public apology and the publication of its full response within 48 hours.
