Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG expansion receives environmental impact statement

Federal regulators have issued a Final Environmental Impact Statement for Cheniere Energy’s proposed Sabine Pass Stage V expansion. The project aims to add 19.5 million tons of annual LNG production through three new liquefaction trains and a 55.6-mile pipeline system.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) determined that the project would result in mostly temporary or short-term environmental effects, which could be mitigated to less-than-significant levels. However, environmental groups have expressed concerns regarding the impact on coastal wetlands. If the expansion is approved, annual LNG carrier traffic at the site is expected to increase from approximately 580 to 740 ships. Construction is projected to begin in late 2026, with initial operations targeted for 2030.

Cheniere Energy Partners, which owns the Sabine Pass LNG asset, maintains long-term contracts that provide significant cash flow visibility for the facility.
