Chennai astrologer arrested for blackmailing Canadian woman

Chennai police have arrested a 45-year-old parrot astrologer, identified as Isakki Muthu, for allegedly blackmailing and attempting to extort money from a Canadian citizen.

The victim, a Sri Lankan Tamil woman holding Canadian citizenship, reportedly sought astrology consultations to resolve personal issues. Authorities state that Muthu, originally from the Tenkasi district, gained her trust by claiming specific rituals were necessary. He allegedly convinced her to participate in a nude ritual via video call, which he secretly recorded.

Following the recording, the suspect reportedly demanded large sums of money, including an initial payment of Rs 70,000 and subsequent demands reaching up to Rs 5 lakh, threatening to circulate the footage on social media if she did not comply. The woman filed a complaint with the Mambalam All Women Police Station, leading to Muthu’s arrest and subsequent remand in judicial custody.
