Chennai faces scheduled power outage on June 17‑18 for maintenance

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) will carry out routine maintenance on its power grid in Chennai on June 17 and June 18, 2026. The outage on June 17 is slated from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the June 18 cut will run from 9 a.m. to about 2 p.m. and may end earlier if work finishes ahead of schedule. A long list of neighbourhoods across the city – including Iyyappanthangal, Mount Poonamallee Road, Pillaiyar Kovil Street and many others – will experience the temporary loss of electricity. Officials say the shutdown is not due to an emergency fault but is intended to upgrade infrastructure, improve reliability and reduce future disruptions. Residents and businesses are advised to charge essential devices, arrange backup power where possible and follow updates from TANGEDCO.
