Chennai High Court allows DMK to file defamation suits against ministers
The Chennai High Court has granted the DMK permission to file defamation lawsuits against Ministers C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and Adhav Arjuna, as well as the party’s IT wing. The legal action stems from allegations made by the ministers and the IT wing regarding the handling of a case involving Veeramani, the owner of Gem Granite, who was detained in a POCSO case.
The DMK, through General Secretary and former minister Duraimurugan, filed a petition claiming that the ministers and the IT wing spread false information to tarnish the party's reputation. The petition alleged that the previous DMK administration had failed to take proper action against Veeramani, whereas the petition clarifies that legal proceedings were initiated immediately following the complaint in October 2025. The DMK sought damages of 1.01 crore rupees and requested social media platforms to remove the controversial content.
In a subsequent press interaction, Duraimurugan expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, stating that the judiciary accepts petitions based on the presence of evidence rather than the identity of the petitioner.
