Chennai MTC seeks to reverse accidental cancellation of 1,000 e-bus tender

The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai has requested to revoke the cancellation of a tender for 1,000 air-conditioned electric buses, stating the cancellation was done inadvertently. In a letter to the National Informatics Centre, the MTC chairman requested the tender be restored to its previous status and asked for an extension of the bid submission deadline to November 4.

The tender involves the procurement, supply, operation, and maintenance of 1,000 low-floor, 12-metre electric buses under a gross cost contract model. The state government had previously allocated Rs 500 crore for this fleet and for upgrading depot infrastructure.

Separately, a different MTC tender for 220 air-conditioned electric feeder buses, intended to provide connectivity to Chennai Metro stations, has closed without receiving any bids.
