Chennai police arrest duo for Rs 2.11 crore rental fraud

The Central Crime Branch of the Greater Chennai Police has arrested two individuals, Helen Rose and Premkumar, for allegedly executing a rental and lease fraud totaling approximately Rs 2.11 crore.

The suspects operated under a fraudulent company named ‘Imayam Homes and Property Management’. According to investigators, the duo rented 34 houses from various owners using the fake firm's name and subsequently leased them to customers through online advertisements. They collected significant sums via cash and online transfers but failed to pay the original homeowners or return lease amounts to the tenants.

The scheme was uncovered after a complainant, Fathima Beevi, discovered the company was fake when the actual property owner demanded she vacate a house she had leased for Rs 7 lakh. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
