Chennai police arrest woman and partner in Sub-Inspector murder

Police in Chennai have arrested a woman and her male companion in connection with the murder of a Sub-Inspector. The victim, identified as 58-year-old Raj, served in the Pudupet Avudappai division.

Initially, the death was reported as a suicide after Raj was found burnt in his home in the Nungambakkam Lake area. However, a post-mortem examination revealed that the victim had ingested sleeping pills and had also been strangled.

Following an investigation into CCTV footage and mobile phone records, authorities identified the victim's wife, Selvarani, and her partner, Devanathan, as suspects. Investigators allege that the pair murdered Raj by dousing him in petrol and setting him on fire. Selvarani reportedly cited a 26-year age gap between her and her husband as a primary motive for the crime.
